FREE ON-LINE FLSA TRAINING MATERIALS

STEWARD ALERT!     The right to be paid for all the hours we work is about as fundamental right as employees have and not far behind that is the right to be paid at an overtime rate when we are asked to work more than the basic work week or day.  Consequently, all union representatives need at least a working knowledge of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and FEDSMILL.com has found a couple of places to get that.

The Dept. of Defense put together a pretty good PowerPoint presentation not long ago that anyone can read through on about 20 minutes.  If you know nothing or just a few things about the FLSA, this is a great place to start.  It is called the, “FLSA: Recent Case Handling Experience and Dealing with Union Information Requests.”  Another interesting, although much longer training tool is a 90-minutes YouTube video that focuses particularly on how to determine whether an employee is covered by the FLSA or not.  Both are prepared by managers, but that does not mean they are misleading or slanted; only that we should double check questions we have with our union’s legal staff.
