FREE NEGOTIATIONS TRAINING VIDEOS

Ye olde Internet is an amazing place to get help with almost anything, and teaching union leaders how to negotiate is one of its strong points.  FEDSMILL.com advises that you start with Youtube.com.

One of the world’s top bargaining experts is William Ury, who co-authored the book GETTING TO YES.  He has two videos on Youtube that every negotiator should watch.  He is easy to listen to and as with any other Youtube product, you can stop the presentation anytime, go back or even come back to it later.  We recommend that you start with Ury’s short 18 minute video and then watch the longer one that runs for an hour.

Another pretty good source is a six-part presentation touching on the following topics in the noted minutes:

Part 1– Advanced Negotiations (8:57)

Part 2- Preparation and Planning (4:52)

Part 3- Negotiation Sequence v. Issues (5:39)

Part 4- Dirty Tricks (11:51)

Part 5- How to Behave Like a Skilled Negotiator (7:23)

Part 6- Principles of Persuasion (16:14)

Before you start bargaining your next contract or even if you are in the middle of some important negotiations, take time out to watch these videos as a team.  They can help get you ready, help diagnosis why the talks are stalled and help assess what you did right and wrong after they are over.
