HAS JIM ABBOTT LOST HIS MIND?

The last we heard of Jim he was being booted off the FLRA after serving without any distinction and with considerable dishonor as President Trump’s guy on the Authority.  That was months ago, and we have been wondering what he was up to when a friend steered us to a recent Reuters article about Jim’s legal troubles. It seems that Jim does not believe he is required to follow the law–something that appears to be going around in his circle of political allies. Consequently, after ignoring repeated federal warnings to comply, the Justice Department has sued him in federal court to force compliance and asked the court to fine him over $71,000. So, here is why we think he lost his mind.

To begin, this is not the first hint that he suffers a cranial void. You might remember that he signed an FLRA decision quoting a passage of a Supreme Court decision as the foundation for his conclusion.  But it turned out he quietly omitted key words from the Court’s statement that totally changed the meaning of the Court’s ruling.  The D.C Circuit court exposed this very dishonorable scheme, as we wrote about in this posting.  This is not the type of behavior a rational attorney wants to be known for.

But, in addition to a track record filled with inane, inconsistent and hypocritical FLRA decisions, now Jim not only risks losing over $71,000 for his refusal to file the same paperwork every political appointee files, but also his bar license. Why? Does he think this will smooth his path to membership in the Proud Boys? Or is his refussal to disclose his finances a hint that he traveled along with Justice Thomas and a handful of other anything-goes right-wing reactionaries on some billionaire’s luxury yatch? I know, i am going overboard here, but you have to ask what about his financies he is trying not to disclose.

And to top off the argument that he has lost his senses, he seems to be blaming his illegal activity on Hunter Biden and some DOJ conspiracy against him.  You “gotta” read the Reuters piece to understand it all.

Here’s hoping that Jim never holds another government position and that the bar association rethinks having admitted him to practice.
